Guidelines for pilgrims


Reception and daily management of our refugium is taken care by Mrs. Marie-Jeanne Teuwen and Mrs. Winanda Poukens. They can be reached at the above address or phonenumber: 0032/89/563842. The refugium opens from mid March till end October. You can check in as from 16:30 p.m. Departure in the morning will be ultimately at 10:00 a.m. We’d like you to phone or mail preferably within 24 hours in advance at the above address. You’ll personally have a pilgrims passport; for Dutch pilgrims it’ll most likely be a hallmark-card, edited by the “Genootschap van Sint Jacob”; other pilgrims are to present a similar document. On arrival the pilgrims-passport is asked for at the reception and taken in receipt, in exchange you’ll get the key that gives you access to the refugium. Furthermore the receptionist will provide you with all the necessary guidelines. A city map of Maaseik and more detailed information concerning our Servicecenter Ter Engelen is at your disposal near our guestbook. You will also find here a floor map with the necessary safety signs and evacuation routes in case of a fire or a disaster. You ‘ll have to register at the reception. The receptionist will ask for your ID-card, just for verification. To stay overnight you ‘ll pay 12€ per person. This amount includes an overnight stay in a room with made bed (inclusive fitted sheet, bottom sheet and pillowcase), breakfast and the use of the bathroom. For an overnight stay without breakfast, you’ll pay 7,50€.Each room is furnished with one or two beds and has warm or cold water. The toilet is located in the bathroom in the corridor. For supper we refer to the numerous facilities downtown. Cooking is not allowed in the building. (fire safety) We expect you back 22:30 p.m. at the latest as at that time the gate of the service entrance closes. You can have breakfast between 7:15a.m. and 8.30a.m. in the “studio” on the groundfloor. A standard breakfast has been ordered for you already. You just report in the refectory. We would very much appreciate if you’ll write down your personal impressions in our guest book. In exchange of the key, your pilgrim-passport ‘ll be stamped on the morning of departure. You can spend only one night at the refugium. Bicycles are parked at own risk. On departure, we’d like you to leave your room and bathroom clean and tidy. Our organisation is non smoking; smoking is allowed only outside. We wish you a pleasant and nice stay in Maaseik and a great pilgrimage.
